Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a sterol and a lipid found in the cell membranes of all body tissues, and transported in the blood plasma of all animals.

Cholesterol plays a central role in many biochemical processes, but is best known for the association of cardiovascular disease with various lipoprotein cholesterol transport patterns and high levels of cholesterol in the blood.

Study: Candy Consumption Frequency Not Linked to Obesity

Buzz60 (May 23, 2013) A study sponsored by the National Confectioners Association finds the frequency of candy consumption is not linked to obesity, heart disease or cholesterol problems. The study in Nutrition Journal says people who ate candy every other day were no more overweight or at risk of disease than people who rarely ate candy.

Study: Baby Boomers Less Healthy Than Their Parents

Buzz60 (Feb. 7, 2013) A study published in Jama Internal Medicine says that despite advances in modern medicine the health of baby boomers is worse than their parents' generation. Things like hypertension, cholesterol and obesity are a lot more common among Boomers, and the study points to their more sedentary lifestyle as another probable cause. Patrick Jones has the story.
