Eucalypts are tree species belonging to three closely related genera, Angophora, Corymbia and Eucalyptus.

Of these, Eucalyptus has the most species, the most-widely planted species and the biggest trees, so "eucalypt" refers most often to Eucalyptus.

To survive frequent bushfires the Eucalypts have developed a 'lignotuber' which is a resovoir of buds so that when small branches are destroyed a new bud can replace it.

b) In dry and arid conditions the eucalypt has the ability to turn its leaves on their edges, so as to reduce evaporation..
