The lanthanide series comprises the 15 elements from lanthanum to lutetium on the periodic table, with atomic numbers 57 through 71.
All lanthanides except lutetium are f-block elements, corresponding to the filling of the 4f electron shell.
The lanthanides are also sometimes referred to by the name "rare earths"..
