Skeletal muscle

Skeletal muscle is a type of striated muscle, attached to the skeleton.

Skeletal muscles are used to facilitate movement, by applying force to bones and joints; via contraction.

They generally contract voluntarily (via nerve stimulation), although they can contract involuntarily.

AFP (Aug. 5, 2013) Scientists on Monday unveiled the world's first lab-grown beef burger, serving it up to volunteers in London in what they hope is the start of a food revolution. The five ounce patty, which cost more than 250,000 euros ($330,000) to produce, has been made using strands of meat grown from muscle cells taken from a living cow.

Puppy Born With Paralyzing Defect Learns to Run

Buzz60 (July 30, 2013) A puppy named Mick, born with a defect called Swimmer Puppy Syndrome, was nursed back to health by the Mia Foundation, which rescues and helps puppies with birth defects. By using different techniques including harness training to build leg muscle strength, the puppy went from being immobilized to running in the park.
