A soft drink is a drink that does not contain alcohol, as opposed to hard drinks, that do.
In general, the term is used only for cold beverages.
"Regular" soft drinks largely contain sugar or corn syrup, and have been blamed in recent years for contributing to obesity.
"Diet" soft drinks are sweetened with chemicals.
