Reuters (Mar. 4, 2012) — An Italian computer scientist worried by the dwindling numbers of local tortoise, the Testudo hermanni, has invented a small monitoring device that can be strapped onto the creature's back. Linked to a GPS system, the unique movements made by the creature while giving birth could be reported via the device in real-time to enable nearby conservationists to save the eggs from hungry predators.
