Medical Marijuana Bill Stays Alive in NY Assembly

TheStreet (May 28, 2014) — The New York Assembly voted yesterday to pass the Compassionate Care Act that would legalize medicinal marijuana. The Democratic led group has passed such a bill before, only to see it get voted down by the Senate. The Senate has a competing bill that is waiting review by the Finance Committee. If both bills pass, they will need to be combined and the differences between the two resolved. The legislative session ends June 19th, so time is running out for the bill to be voted on. The finance committee will not confirm if they will add it to their agenda before the session ends. Video provided by TheStreet

Medicinal Marijuana Vote in New York Senate Could Come in Weeks

TheStreet (May 13, 2014) — New York State legislators are getting closer to voting on medicinal marijuana legislation. A recent amendment was made to the legislation listing the approved illnesses that would be covered. Senator Diane Savino's counsel Bryan Clenahan tells TheStreet that the bill needs to go to the health committee and then possibly the finance committee first. After that, it could come to the floor for a vote before the session ends on June 19th. Clenahan says there are enough bipartisan votes to pass the legislation, but he concedes that time is running out. Video provided by TheStreet
