Intel Creates Group Aimed at Setting "Internet of Things" Standards

TheStreet (July 8, 2014) — Intel announced it's established a new group focused on setting the standard for the "Internet of Things," which will compete with an alliance already created by Qualcomm. Intel said it's created the Open Interconnect Consortium, which aims to establish how smart devices can work together and connect to everyday household items. Members of the group, which includes Broadcom, Dell and Samsung, among others, will donate intellectual property that all members can use. Instead of joining the group already in existence, Intel created a competing alliance to address security and other issues it says are not adequately handled by the AllSeen group, according to Reuters.
