Apple Files for Sales Ban on Nine Samsung Phone Models

Apple Files for Sales Ban on Nine Samsung Phone Models

TheStreet (May 27, 2014) — It's round two in the battle between Apple and Samsung after Apple filed for a sales ban on nine of Samsung's older models of phones. It's the latest in what has been a long legal battle between the companies. Earlier this month, Apple received only $120 million dollars in a patent lawsuit against Samsung, a fraction of the $2.2 bilion dollars it had originally sought in damages. Now, Apple is seeking a ban, arguing it is more important than any monetary compensation won in protecting the three patents it accuses Samsung of infringing. For its part, Samsung says the claims are overblown and a ploy to muscle out the competition. Apple has asked the court to either order a retrial or to review the compensation awarded by the jury. Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox Give Booster to July Retail Sales

TheStreet (Aug. 15, 2014) — Next-generation consoles helped boost gaming software and hardware sales in the U.S. since June. Video game sales, including hardware and accessories, jumped 16% from a year earlier to $514.3 million, according to market researcher NPD Group. That increase was driven by the continued success of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One, the latest iterations of their gaming consoles which had near simultaneous releases last November. PlayStation 4 held its lead as top-selling console, a spot it has commanded over Xbox for seven consecutive months. Sony said it has sold more than 10 million units worldwide so far. Apples Rolls Out New Software Updates for Developers at WWDC14

Apples Rolls Out New Software Updates for Developers at WWDC14

TheStreet (June 2, 2014) — Apple introduced new operating system updates at the World Wide Developer's Conference in San Francisco, Yosemite and iOS8. OS X.X for laptops and desktop computers is now called "Yosemite". Updates to the platform allow devices to communicate more effectively with other Apple devices. This will help compete with Google Drive and Google Docs and will push users to stay within the Apple eco system. Apple's newest "employee" Dr. Dre made a cameo appearance by phone to help demonstrate how computers will be able to locate iPhone's within the home. This function will allow users to make and receive phone calls through their computers. iOS 8 for iPhones and iPads helps that process as well. But, there are also updates for sharing pictures and controlling home appliances, Home Kit, and making mobile devices more hands free in vehicles. Users will also be able to aggregate health information from all the apps they use in Health Kit. Sergio Quintana reports from San Francisco. Video provided by TheStreet
