Facebook May Be Banned in China, But Ad Sales Are Alive

TheStreet (May 13, 2014) — Facebook may be banned in China, but that hasn't slowed the social media giant from quietly building its advertising business there. Bloomberg reports that Facebook is looking to lease office space in China, presumably to open an office there. However, the company has already been working with exports on advertising. Facebook has essentially become more of an advertising company than a social media company since the social network went public, and companies have learned that a Facebook page is no good without spending some ad dollars since Facebook cut back on organic reach. Facebook: 10 Years Old and Still "Scaling Up"

TheStreet (Feb. 4, 2014) — Facebook employees take their time when it matters most, and that patience has enabled the company to grow tremendously over the past ten years, says Robert Sutton, author of "Scaling Up Excellence". Also helping Facebook's growth was CEO Mark Zuckerberg's early decision to put product over profits. If Facebook wants to continue scaling up, says Sutton, it needs to emulate Google as it matures and make a transition to a different type of workforce, which is more focused on the needs of the employee and his or her family.
