Basic activities like eating, writing, typing and lifting can be preformed. Called 'Swumanoid', the robot isn't yet ready for a role in Japan's Olympic swimming program but, by 2016, developers hope to have it ready as a coach's assistant.

Chemical Warfare Robot, PETMAN, Struts His Stuff

Reuters (Apr. 8, 2013) — Massachusetts robotics firm Boston Dynamics has moved another step closer to deploying its humanoid robot PETMAN for work as a testing platform for chemical protection clothing. PETMAN is an acronym for Protection Ensemble Test Mannequin, and is designed to mimic a soldier exposed to toxic substances such as sarin and mustard gas. Rob Muir has more.
