Facebook May Be Banned in China, But Ad Sales Are Alive

TheStreet (May 13, 2014) — Facebook may be banned in China, but that hasn't slowed the social media giant from quietly building its advertising business there. Bloomberg reports that Facebook is looking to lease office space in China, presumably to open an office there. However, the company has already been working with exports on advertising. Facebook has essentially become more of an advertising company than a social media company since the social network went public, and companies have learned that a Facebook page is no good without spending some ad dollars since Facebook cut back on organic reach. Microsoft Guards Patents With Lawyer Entourage at Nortel Trial

TheStreet (May 12, 2014) — Microsoft will have numerous lawyers on call at a trial to divvy up the assets of Nortel Networks, formerly the largest maker of phone equipment in North America. When Nortel collapsed in 2009, Microsoft teamed up with fellow tech companies Apple and Sony to purchase more than 6,000 of its patents for $4.5 billion. Now, Nortel's creditors are taking to court to argue who deserves the funds raised from that patent sale. The joint venture known as Rockstar Consortium is defending the patents' confidentiality and will request certain content of around 1,000 court documents to be redacted. Video provided by TheStreet
