Summary:
Apple introduced new operating system updates at the World Wide Developer's Conference in San Francisco, Yosemite and iOS8. OS X.X for laptops and desktop computers is now called "Yosemite". Updates to the platform allow devices to communicate more effectively with other Apple devices. This will help compete with Google Drive and Google Docs and will push users to stay within the Apple eco system. Apple's newest "employee" Dr. Dre made a cameo appearance by phone to help demonstrate how computers will be able to locate iPhone's within the home. This function will allow users to make and receive phone calls through their computers. iOS 8 for iPhones and iPads helps that process as well. But, there are also updates for sharing pictures and controlling home appliances, Home Kit, and making mobile devices more hands free in vehicles. Users will also be able to aggregate health information from all the apps they use in Health Kit. Sergio Quintana reports from San Francisco. Video provided by TheStreet

Ford May Be SYNCing With BlackBerry, Ditching Microsoft

TheStreet (Feb. 24, 2014) — Shares of BlackBerry are rising on Monday on reports that Ford is turning to the beleagured tech company to power its Sync voice-activated system. A partnership would be a significant achievement for BlackBerry, which has been struggling for years. In effect, Ford will be ditching Microsoft, whose voice-activated software has been the basis of Ford's Sync system since it was introduced in 2007. BlackBerry's QNX Software Systems is already featured in Audi and BMW vehicles, but would significantly expand its presence, as Ford has built more than 10 million vehicles worldwide that are equipped with Sync software. Glympse Takes Over Travel Updates Automatically

TheStreet (Jan. 21, 2014) — Glympse is a geolocation app that updates people of your choosing on your location for a set period of time. Easier and faster than a text, the program is now available in many major car brands including BMW, Mercedes, Ford, and General Motors to reduce texting and driving, and it's even available on Facebook and Twitter. However, users' privacy is protected because the updates only go to selected friends or family members. Recipients can also turn off Glympse if they don't need to see the location.
