Xinhua News Agency (Feb. 12, 2013) — On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot twenty children and six adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the village of Sandy Hook in Newtown, Connecticut. After the shooting, 10 dogs and 18 handlers were dispatched from the Chicago headquarters of Lutheran Church Charities to Newtown and help children at Sandy Hook Elementary as well as the Newtown High School to overcome trauma related to the mass shooting.
