Target Data Breach Shines Focus on Lack of IT Security Talent

TheStreet (Feb. 26, 2014) — Hewlett-Packard's head of security products Art Gilliland says cyber attacks, like the one at Target late last year, highlight the need for more skilled workers in the IT security space. Gilliland says the latest figures show there is a 40-percent vacancy rate in IT security jobs in 2014 and a 58-percent vacancy of jobs at the supervisor level. HP, along with the Ponemon Institute, also found roughly 56-percent of companies do not have chief information security officer as part of their C-Suite team. Gilliland says companies are also competing with each other on the pay front where the competition for talent is fierce and some aren't able to offer competitive salaries. TheStreet (July 10, 2014) — Apple will present arguments in a U.S. District Court in San Jose today, where it's expected to offer a "sunset period" giving Samsung time to redesign the nine features Apple says are infringing upon its patents, according to a report by Bloomberg. Apple's changing its tactic after having its request for a sales ban against Samsung rejected twice. Samsung has been found by a jury to be in violation of three of Apple's patents. They pertain to features including allowing a user to call a number directly from a Web site, automatic spelling corrections and unlocking the phone through gestures. Video provided by TheStreet
