Jim Cramer: Stratasys Is the Way to Play 3-D Printing, 3D Systems Isn't

TheStreet (Aug. 7, 2014) TheStreet's Jim Cramer says Stratasys is the good one when it comes to 3-D. Cramer has been reviled by investors for saying that he doesn't like 3-D manufacturing. Just because Cramer isn't behind 3D systems, that doesn't mean that he can't like Stratasys. Cramer likes Stratasys because it is both the manufacturing company that does 3-D which bought Brooklyn-based MakerBot, who is the consumer 3-D play. The latest quarter for Stratasys was spectacular with increased revenue guidance, however this quarter wasn't great for 3D Systems. Cramer says that this is the 3-D story if investors want to play it and that Stratasys could go up another 10% without a problem. Video provided by TheStreet

'3D Heights' Offers First Corner Store Approach to 3D Printing

TheStreet (June 25, 2014) 3D printing can sound, well, complex. Even if you have something you'd like to print, where should you go to get it modeled? And if you'd like to buy a 3D printer, who can you talk to about your options? 3D Heights, a new 3D printing store in Washington Heights, aims to make 3D printing easy. The store sells 3D printers and offers customizable printing, as well as education and training services. It sells all brands, making it one of the few unbiased 3D printing stores in New York. 3D Heights CEO Jerry Castanos says that as 3D printing becomes more accessible, use of the technology will skyrocket. His goal? To be the catalyst of this transition. Castanos says 3D printing will be making a boom soon as business owners and school principals starting using the technology. For investors, this means they should be paying attention to 3D printing. Video provided by TheStreet

SpaceX Dragon Version 2 Uses 3-D Printing for Rockets

TheStreet (May 30, 2014) Elon Musk introduced the latest spacecraft from his company SpaceX, the Dragon Version 2. In a short presentation yesterday evening from SpaceX headquarters, Musk dropped the drape on the spaceship designed to hold seven passengers and built to be reused. The operating panel pulled downed from above the seats and resembled a large Tesla dashboard. Musk called the interior esthetically pleasing in that it was clean and simple. The rockets are printed from a 3-D printer that uses a special high strength alloy, making the idea of 3-D printers more than a novelty for crafts. Video provided by TheStreet
